Crandon Park in Key Biscayne has long been a favorite of locals looking for a fun relaxing day with the family.

The beaches, all three miles of them, are wide, shallow, with gentle waves, which makes them a little paradise for kids. The beaches are very low key and don't feel as crowded as say, South Beach, but still offer a lot of outdoor fun for the active families.

So if you are into a little more than a day of sunning and swimming, there are plenty of facilities for watersports or simply enjoying a picnic.

Crandon Park Beach is a natural beach, don't be put off by the seaweed, instead, grab a snorkel and take a closer look. It is a necessary natural habitat for many little critters and really fun for kids to watch and learn.

Parking is plentiful, but as all other Miami beaches, weekends are crowded.

July, August and September are sea turtle season. Sea turtles have laid their eggs and the hatchlings are coming out. The nests are marked, please do not disturb! Crandon Park also conducts Sea Turtle Awareness and Hatchling Release Programs during the season, learn more here.

Besides the beach, the Crandon Park complex also includes:

  • Crandon Park Tennis Center, 27 courts and previous home of the Miami Open
  • Crandon Park Golf Course, a championship 18-hole golf course and the only public course on the Bay
